Atop a roof, against the sky
There stood a boy, his arm held high
The only thing on his mind
Was his dream that he could fly
As the wind caressed his face
He shut his eyes and began to pray
"Please just once, let me soar"
Satisfied he repeated
          one..last..time
The ledge receded, he felt alive
Lost in the feeling of that amazing wind
He flew forever, he never stopped
Happy he was, that he was on top
But this is where his tale unfolds
the boy named J
the one with no home
He watched the people pass him by
And long ago he quit asking why
His dream -so alive- went out of control
No one cared to see him go
The tragedy of his dream
Was not that people refused to believe
Its that his wish
         did come true
In 5.3 seconds

He did what he wanted to do.

Atop a roof, against the sky
there once stood a boy now lost in time
If only one thing could be said
About the life which he led
Don't ever believe that you've had enough
Don't ever think life's too rough
there are no do overs, no repeats
Just a message of many words
If your there on a roof
just back away; move aside
Abandon the dream
       that you can fly.

What to say about this little guy. Nothing, like his life, it added up to nothing. So read and make your own judgements.

When your pet bird sees you reading the newspaper, does he wonder why you're just sitting there, staring at carpeting?

Well I'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total bitch.

Whoa. This was awsome, as is most of your work. Most suicide stuff seems trite but i really enjoyed this one. Maybe because you weren't talking about killing yourself. But either way, it's good.

Hahaha, Thanks. i do agree with your analysis of most sudicide related poetry. It's hard to get across a message that people can seldom relate to. As always thanks for the comments and the attention.

Awsome poem man, I love the fact you used trying to fly instead of killing yourself it really adds a whole new and interesting look on suicide and gives it a more fantastical twist. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks, its a powerful and touchy subject, i thought flying kinda fit with escapism and the whole lore behind suicide. im glad you like it.
